As the new year rolls in, many of us make resolutions to start fresh and take steps toward bettering ourselves. Have you ever considered taking a break from drinking for a month? If so, you’re not alone. Many people choose to follow what is known as the “Dry January” challenge—a month of abstaining from alcohol. But why should you join in on this challenge? This blog will provide you with ideas on how and why to take the Dry January plunge!


What Is Dry January?
Dry January is simply a challenge to go sober for 1 full month. It can be seen as a way of resetting your relationship with alcohol or just an overall health kick-start after the holiday season. You may find that by going through this challenge you will save money, feel more energized, have better sleep at night, and even have improved mental clarity.

How Can I Do It?
The most important part of taking on this challenge is having a plan in place. Decide now which days or weeks might be harder than others and prepare yourself accordingly. Think about what activities or hobbies you can use as replacements when cravings hit—maybe try yoga, painting, cooking, reading—or anything else that sounds fun to keep your mind and body occupied. Additionally, make sure your family and friends know about your dry spell so they can help encourage and motivate you along the way!

When you choose not to drink for 30 days, you are helping yourself in more ways than one. From mental clarity to weight loss, there are numerous benefits of abstaining from drinking for an extended period of time. By joining in on the Dry January challenge, you can enjoy these positive changes in your life without having to commit long-term. After all, no more late-night takeout binges or expensive nights out mean more money saved!
